Book

I’m excited to announce that my first book, The Boy with the Dragon Tear Necklace, will be completed this spring (2012) when I’ll be looking to get it published. This book is written for middle-grade readers (age 9-12) and is the first in The Dragon Defense League series.

Here’s a synopsis:

Twelve-year old Peter Clark is a regular kid with an amazing secret: he is part of a long line of Dragon Defenders sworn to protect dragons from poachers who hunt them for their magical parts. His mission is supposed to be easy– go down into a sinkhole deep in a Mexican jungle to collect the egg of the elusive Cuélebre dragon. But when the dragon poachers arrive while Peter is down the hole, he finds himself alone in the dark with a watermelon-sized dragon egg and a flashlight with dying batteries.

Xana Aleron is bored out of her skull, stuck at an eco-lodge that doesn’t even have TV, while her celebrity father looks for inspiration for his next album. When Xana sees a boy her age covered in dirt and holding a strange-looking egg, she wants in. But even Xana isn’t prepared for just how exciting things will get when a small red dragon hatches out of the egg.

Mario Perez is an orphan, living in an abandoned car with black plastic in the windows. He jumps at the chance to help out when Peter and Xana show up in the village looking for something that sounds a lot like the Mayan serpent god, Ix-Tub-Tun.

Together, the three children uncover the secrets of the Cuélebre dragon and the legend of Ix-Tub-Tun, and find themselves locked in an epic battle with ruthless dragon poachers who will stop at nothing to get the egg and kill the dragon.
