Scrabblelibs

Every Christmas Jay’s family gets together at my mother-in-law’s house. We talk and laugh but mainly we eat.

This year, in between eating and eating, I noticed that my brother and sister-in-law, and their two kids, kept checking their phones.

“HOW RUDE!” I shouted, “and also, what are you doing?”

They were playing Scrabble. Jay and I quickly got in on the action. (it’s only rude if I’m not included).

Now we’re addicted. We sit beside one another on the couch, talking via the little word bubble.

There are several benefits of this game. One, it keeps you connected to family who live far away. Two, it’s fun. Third, you can randomly put letters together to discover new words. Educational!

My sister-in-law had an epic vocab-building round this afternoon. New words were flying left and right.

I add letters until it finally takes them. The word? “quag”

Me: ha ha that word was a total shot in the dark. I wonder what it means.

Her: right…

Me: what the quag?

she plays “ki” to score a triple word

Me: ki? are you kidding me? what the quag kind of word is ki?!

Her: quag you

Me: shut yer quag

Her: you shut your wab

I check. Sure enough, she just played “wab” for a double letter score on the w

me: I’ll wab you where the sun don’t shine. Put a ki in it.

I could do this all day.
