And on the 14th day…

January 12, 2009 – 1:36 pm

On the magical day when the baby was to be born the nice people waited anxiously for news.  When would he come out?  Would it be 2008 or 2009? Would he have hair? Eyebrows? Chubby cheeks? And how CUTE and TINY would his toes and fingers be?

The people waited and waited and WAITED.

And the NEXT day…

they waited

until the day after THAT when…

they kept on a-waiting

then the very next day

they waited SOME MORE

and then waited

and

waited

and

waited

and

waited

BUT THEN!

the road between the girl’s house and her mother’s house flooded ! and the girl’s mother screamed BLOODY MURDER! WHAT WILL I DO IF THAT BABY IS BORN? until her husband called in an old favor with the National Guard

and they cleared the road that very minute

and still the people waited

the little baby was snug in his momma’s belly

and he didn’t want to come out.

Until the THIRTEENTH day after his due date, when it was the birthday of his VERY NICE AUNTIE.  ”Maybe he will come out for my birthday!” she said with hopeful anticipation.  She even wished it when she blew out her candles.

And then she waited

(sort of impatiently, truth be told)

but NO SIGN OF BABY!

Till the 14th day when…

THE PEOPLE KEPT ON WAITING!

And the girl and her family and the girl’s mom and the baby’s aunt and even the cute and fuzzy dog pulled their hair out and danced in anxious circles and chanted age-old birthing incantations.

EAT SPICY FOOD! WALK AROUND THE CITY! HERE DRINK THIS CASTER OIL! they shouted at the very pregnant girl.  And she did all the things they told her.  Because even though the girl was VERY patient all along, she stopped being patient on the fourteenth day.

But the little baby said smugly to himself, “I’ll show those people who’s the boss,” and he hunkered in to make them wait some more

Okay, don’t let me be the ass of commenters…but at what point is the doctor going to say, “hey, it’s dangerous to wait this long….baby could run out of amniotic fluid and we need to get him/her out of there?” ARgh! I want the baby out NOW!!

Well, at least baby will have a nicely functioning liver by now and won’t get jaundice.

I had to find you something good about the wait!

My mom tells me that my own due date was on the 1st and I wasn’t born until the 27th! These things happen I guess. But I’m sure he’ll be fine and happy to be here when the time is right. Some little eggs just take longer to finish I guess.

My mom swears I was three weeks overdue. She said my fingernails had grown so long they were curling back and cutting into the tips of my fingers a little.

Glory, though, I can’t imagine how BIG that baby is going to be. I was nearly 10 pounds!

Instead of drinking castor oil, your sister could drink a shot of Black Cohosh. Guaranteed contractions, I swear.

What is wrong with the doc that he’s not inducing at this point? None of my babies wanted to come out and all were at least one week late, the first child induced at two weeks. She was my smallest, at nine pounds, six ounces. Make it come out, already!

Tell her to come carry in some firewood for me. Hubby was away on a business trip and I was doing everything I possibly could to avoid going into labor. But then I ran out of my stock pile of wood in the house and had to go outside and carry some in. Had a baby within 24 hours (2 weeks early)

Keep us updated =D I know your first post will be hard to type because of the baby hanging from your mouth by his toes…but…

Okay honestly? Since WHEN does a doc make you wait 2 weeks+ after a due date? That’s frickin crazy! Doesn’t it get a little dangerous by then? Or have things changed so much since I last gave birth?

    We should all chant: Pit-toe-sin!!!

Oh my goodness. I will say, I was 2 weeks late. My mother has yet to forgive me. Auntie either. My mother SWEARS if I’m ever blessed with child, he/she is going to wait around forever.

    Today, I’m hopeful for today!

My first son was 10 days late and I was totally impatient. I tried eating spicy food and drinking castol oil (UGH). Nothing worked. He just came when he decided to come. The day after my birthday.

Im praying for you sister and the baby. God Bless!
