A flake’s a flake’s a flake… right? Wrong.

… sometime around 5:30am …

The room is dark and- thankfully- warm.

I am jolted from a deep sleep by the harsh ring of the telephone.  I leap out of bed and across the room in a single bound.  My sister!  She’s having the baby!

But when I answer, “Hello?  Hello?  HELLO?” it’s only a recording on the other end.

“Seattle Public Schools will be CLOSED today,” says the nasal voice, “due to the threat of snow.”

I hang up and stumble back to bed.

A few hours later… at a more reasonable hour… I take a look outside.

The roads are bare.  Not even a teeny-tiny speck of new snow.

Well that’s sort of odd.

I shrug it off.  The clouds ARE rather grey and foreboding.  Maybe Seattle Public Schools has an inside track with Mother Nature. Maybe they know something that the rest of us aren’t privy to.

… 9:27pm …

The roads are still bare.  The day has been nice and on the warm side.  What residual snow we started with has long since melted.

And so ends the first snow day that I can remember where THERE WASN’T ANY SNOW.

Not one single flake.

I’ll give you a hint… you can’t clear up these flakes with Head & Shoulders.

  1. I loved that the mere threat of snow closed schools. Our preschool follows the public school closures so we had a “stay home day” due to the ineptitude of the weather service. Awesome! Now if only I had been the student getting out of school.

  2. LOL! I bet someone’s getting fired for hitting the wrong button! We are suppose to get 8-14 inches here starting tonight and I bet the kids still won’t have a snow day.

  3. But we got an inch in the night. So the whole city must now shut down! Sweet.

  4. Wow. I like the notification. We have to crowd around the tv.

  5. Clever choice of flake representatives! Love that!

  7. Amazing. Same in NY – they close school the minute Al Roker says the word “snow”. It’ ridiculous and they pull the “well you want your child to be safe, don’t you?” Um, well they are home bothering me…they may be safer in school ;)

  8. You forgot to include a pic of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and the guy I saw at Target wearing shorts and flip flops in the balmy 28 degree weather we experienced this morning!

  9. Omgosh that’s sooo funny! I’m in Ohio. We’re getting a mix of crap right now. Well, it’s not raining actual crap…lol…snow, freezing rain and these pretty little balls of ice. I helped my daughter clear off her car (1/4 inch of ice- arghhhhh!) Still had school though. Which makes me nervous letting her drive in all this junk.

that pic of the bus is CRAZY AMAZING! Wow! I guess you finally did get a blast of winter weather after all! Merry Christmas Seattle!
