Last night after CJ went to bed, I sat down on the living room floor and put together Legos for three hours.
See, I’d decided that they needed to be organized, and the only way that I know to organize Legos when they’ve gotten all jumbled together is to build each set and then put them away in their respective boxes.
I had it in my head that this could be a fun date night activity of shared laughter and play… Sort of like collaborating on a puzzle. Only different.
“Jay,” I call out as he heads towards the stairs, “wanna do Legos with me?”
He looks at me like I’m crazy.
“Excuse me?”
“Legos! I’m putting Legos together. And, you know, I though we could like talk and bond and stuff while we put together Legos.”
He shakes his head in disbelief. “No. I do NOT want to put Legos together with you.” He sees my doleful expression and adds, “but I’ll sit on the couch with my glass of wine and talk to you while you do Legos.”
So he did.
And I did.
And… oddly enough… it was fun.
#245 on the list of things that I never thought I’d do before I had kids.

I have that list too. But the kids have given me CRS (can’t remember shit) so I don’t know where the list even is and I’ve completely lost track and can’t remember ever NOT having kids anyways.

Sounds like a great date to me, although before I had kids I would have thought it was lame.
Last night I sat on the couch and talked to my husband while he played Lego Star Wars…still fun.

I used to do that with train tracks. ;)

That’s funny, my husband actually really enjoys putting legos together, and one night we were up until about midnight putting a star wars ship together. It was fun!

Oh, so you call it “legos?”
*wink, wink*
Actually, I’m just impressed you actually stayed up after C.J. went to bed…

tee hee — I love that. It sounds like something we would do too.

Ohh Fun! Sounds like Christmas eve when I get to put together the boys’ Santa presents. Except I drink egg nog and rum and my husband particpates :)

Now if that had been my house the roles would have been reversed with the hubby wanting to put the legos together… although I would have been the one wanting to organize them! He’s have never thought of that!

OMG… I thought I was the only one obsessive enough to put the proper Legos back in their original boxes.
You should see all the Harry Potter sets we have. Now that daughter is 17, they are put away… kinda sad, that.

I love it – the things we never thought we’d end up doing. And hey, sometimes you have to get creative with date night, right? I hope you at least enjoyed a glass of wine too!
FYI – you have been tagged! Check out my blog when you have a chance.

That is actually really sweet. Good job on making time for the hubby. Maybe I should try that with Mr. AFRo. We need more time, just cannot seem to find it anywhere.

I put Volcano’s Thomas Train tracks together when he’s in bed. Finally I get to do it MY way!

Use to organize our legos. Now they are in large containers. If they want a certain piece they can dump the box on a towel. When they find it they take the towel, raise it over the box & dump them back in.

This would happen with us but I would be on the couch with the wine and Caspian would be doing Legos :-)

Love it! We could totally do that with our little guy’s trains. Sometimes we have the best times just hanging out in the back yard after Sam’s in bed.

Well, that sounds lovely.
I’m going to set up a similar date night, but I’m going to be the one drinking the wine – and it will be a bottle and not a glass. :)

Sweet bonding!
My husband would have said yes, then started making ‘graphic’ things with them – because that’s just who he is.
