The source of endless energy

May 15, 2008 – 3:45 pm

Where does he get his ENERGY? I wonder. It’s the end of a long day, and CJ is still going strong, racing and zipping around the house… leaping and bouncing and boinging up and down…

From my seat on the couch I can’t help but notice that he keeps sneaking into the kitchen and then re-emerging with a sly half-smile that I know only too well.

So I follow him…. entering the kitchen just as he is coming out.

I take a quick look around. Hmm, nothing seems amiss. Maybe I misjudged him.

(Note: If you think you’ve misjudged your four-year old… look harder)

I open the fridge. Still nothing out of the ordinary.

What could he be up to?

He’s standing looking at me with sparkling eyes and a smile that says “I’ve been up to no good.”

“What are you doing, mommy?” he asks me.

I don’t respond.

Suddenly I see it. Sitting on the counter next to the fridge is an innocuous-seeming cup.

I look inside the cup and see that it’s filled with maple syrup.

CJ has poured himself a cup of maple syrup and has been sneaking into the kitchen to have a sip every now and again.

There are no words.

Only…

Help!

Love that my first is first! :-)
That cracks me up and makes my teeth ache! A CUP of maple syrup. Holy cow. Yikes.
I am in full belief that a 4 year old is always up to something :-)

LOL How hilarious! I would hang myself. My soon to be 3 year old has a chocolate addiction and will always find it somewhere in the house. I discover her in her bed with chocolate all over her face many a morning.

Too funny! Now I don’t feel so bad that my daughter was asking for Skittles after breakfast (as if I EVER give dessert after breakfast!)

SO so true! No wonder my kids love CJ so much. He is one of them.

ROFL! Okay, that officially beats the 1/3-left bag of M&Ms I once found stuffed under my couch after my son (about 4 or 5 at the time) had got hold of it and eaten most of the bag without being caught.

    Maple syrup. Yikes!

He poured a cup of syrup and managed to sneak sips of it without you noticing? I’m impressed with his sneaking skills and his creativity. Syrup as a beverage, I bet not many have tried that before.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! That is SO AWESOME! How did you keep yourself from laughing your head off when he did that? That kills me.

    That is classic!

I’ll bet he just loves when you have waffles.

So THAT’S where is comes from. I’ll have to try sipping maple syrup throughout the day and see if it helps me.

Question: Do you pronounce it SUR-rup or SEER-rup? I’m a fan of the former, but my in-laws always correct me. Yeesh.

Oh my goodness. You poor thing.

You know what’s sad…I remember doing this same thing when I was a kid. What in the heck was I thinking?

I thank God everyday that my kids are not overly active. I spent the day chaperoning on my son’s field trip and there was one really hyper little boy on the trip. It was exhausting!!

I love me some pure maple syrup, but to drink it? Ugh!

But then I’ve been falling prey to a MUST HAVE nap every day for a few weeks now. maybe I should take a hit of maple syrup??

That’s a funny story my kids like to wait until we go to bed and then they sneak out to the kitchen and eat whatever they can. They think we can’t hear them scurring through the house and opening and closing the cabnet doors. Kids are funny when they are trying to be sneaky.

Wow, sneaking drinks without you knowing; and the HARD stuff too… syrup!

    Cute!

My son would totally do that–and he’s 15.
