There’s a Buzz Lightyear action figure lying on the floor of my car. You know the kind, with the buttons on the front and the cool laser beam on the arm?
He’s been resting there for quite a while now.
Every time I stomp down on the gas or the brake (which is quite frequently, truth be told), Buzz’s buttons roll against the floor and he shouts out with gusto,
TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!
And even though I’m only going to the grocery store or the library or the sale at Macy’s, I suddenly feel like I am the commander of my own special star ship, shooting through the galaxy at light speed.

okay…don’t tell anyone this…but i FIRMLY believe that my kids’ toys really are alive, ala toy story. so, josh’s woody and buzz figures totally freak me the heck out.

Buzz can make the most mundane tasks special.
April 24, 2008 at 12:25 pm
That would scare the life out of me, every time!
April 24, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I thought I heard some screeching tires from your general direction.

Oh how funny! I have two of those, completely neglected, in the toy box at home. I’m putting one in my car.

Love it! We have two of those in the toy box. Everytime someone bumps into the toy box, Buzz shouts the infamous “To infinity and beyond” line.

I can totally relate! Buzz is all over the house. Go Space Ranger Mom!!

LOL! I used to have a Blue’s Clues toy in my car…..I grew accustomed to its perky “Hi! It’s me, Joe!” each time I took a turn and it bumped against the side of the car. When we removed it, I admit that I missed Joe.

That’s funny. That would encourage me to speed and stop…speed and stop!!
We have one without the helmet (anymore) that studders…chutters…and repeats one word. We like him like that. He’s more fun that way!
(And he’s CLEANER because he got that way in the TUB!)

haha. It took me so many times of getting upset at whoever was honking at me to realize that it was just my son’s stroller in the back…

The boys were so into Buzz . . . I remeber that really big one talking when nobody was around, “Star command, star command do you copy?”
April 24, 2008 at 9:09 pm
That’s awesome! I should maybe “drop” a Buzz into MY car!
April 25, 2008 at 5:19 am
Can I come with you?
April 25, 2008 at 6:56 am
Wow, your life sounds about as pathetic as mine (and I mean that in the nicest way, I swear). Seriously, you’ve got a friend in me. Had to say it.
April 25, 2008 at 9:17 am
My son loves Buzz Lightyear and has for over 6 years.
April 25, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Wasn’t expecting this. Couldn’t stop laughing for awhile. All of us mommies need to feel like spaceship commanders for awhile instead of taxi cab drivers.
Thanks for the laugh!

Totally feeling your mommy-ness.
I walked down the hallway one evening and heard a stranger in my child’s bedroom…it was a muffled sound. Kinda freaky…I poked in and turned over the Sing and Snore Ernie who just out of the blue decided to talk to me…saying…
“I am so tired.”
You’re tired? You’re a stinkin doll…let me tell you about my day…
So about the time I went off on Ernie…I knew it was time to rip out the battery pack and make myself a bath and a margarita.
Sigh.

my daughter once managed to lodge a bilingual toy cell phone beneath a seat in the car. Everytime I would stop,I would hear,”HOLA!”.
April 27, 2008 at 5:34 pm
That made me laugh really hard. Maybe mundane trips would be more exciting if always built up in that manner…
April 27, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I have two shelves of toys in my office; yes, they are alive…
Okay, maybe not, but it’s fun to still be a kid sometimes.
April 27, 2008 at 8:52 pm
LMAO…that’s one way to give your ego a boost anyday!

So funny! The comments kept me laughing, too.
