As I may have mentioned, my niece and nephew are staying with us for a few days. On their first night at our house I was lying with them and trying to get them to settle down and go to sleep, when I was party to THIS rather remarkable conversation.
Henry: Jenny, I just can’t go to sleep.
Me: Just close your eyes and think of something that makes you really, really happy.
Henry: I’m going to think about Lego’s. Because Lego’s are my FAVORITE thing on Earth.
Mirna: What about God? You should always put God first if you want to be a good person.
(Mirna is in 3rd Grade and is highly knowledgeable.)
Henry: (Squirms uncomfortably) I meant Lego’s are my SECOND favorite thing.
Mirna: WHAT is your first favorite?
Henry: (softly) Jesus.
Mirna: WHAT ABOUT GOD?!
Henry: I meant God AND Jesus… and then Lego’s are my NEXT favorite.

I’m with Henry; I always found Jesus to be a little more approachable than God himself.

Childlike faith…you’ve gotta love it!

Have you seen the Steve Martin Christmas bit from SNL? He’s all “If I could have one wish this Christmas season, it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing, etc.”
As he goes on, he starts adding things like wealth, power, etc. and THEN the “crap about the kids”. It’s hilarious. And totally relevant to this story. Right?!?

Hmmm. I feel odd. I’m the only one thinking…good grief, the guilt induced spirituality starts so young.
I believe God is in Legos too.

That’s very sweet.
I love listening to my kids and how they feel about God. Last night we looked at the sunset ang agreed that God does a great job with purple and orange.
She’s pretty good/smart for third grade!

I’m down with the queen…there should be no guilt in faith, especially as a child….but meh, kids are kids and it is funny.

Poor kid… good people don’t have to like God more than Lego.
Besides, he said favorite thing ON EARTH.

Lego’s are always getting the shaft. You know how far I had to drive to find a Church of Lego? It’s not fair.

So cute? How old are they in 3rd grade? Miss E is in Year 3 in the UK and is 7, going on 8.
Is it similar there? It sounds similar. :D
