Mission impossible

This evening CJ and I pick Jay up at work. CJ is, erm, disgruntled about the fact that we bought a NEW TOY for his friend (whose birthday party is on Sunday) and DIDN’T buy one for CJ.

(THE NERVE!!)

CJ: I am ANGRY!

Me: Ok…

CJ: I don’t even WANT Max to have the present.

Me: Well, if you can’t be a nice boy, maybe I should call Max’s mom and tell her that we won’t be coming to the birthday party.

CJ: I will call Max MYSELF and I will tell him that I don’t even WANT him to have a birthday.

(I sigh and roll my eyes at Jay.)

Jay: Maybe we should talk about this tomorrow when you’ve calmed down.

CJ: I am ANGRY! And I DON’T EVEN WANT MAX TO HAVE A BIRTHDAY! Hmmph.

Jay: I can see that.

CJ: I am VERY VERY angry.

Jay: Right. So CJ, what we need to figure out is, WHAT can we do to make you happy?

(I laugh. What can we do, indeed. How about giving him the toy we bought for his friend’s birthday present?)

Jay: Do you know what we can do, CJ? To make you happy?

CJ: YES, I KNOW.

Jay: OK, what?

CJ: (Pauses and thinks it over.) I don’t know.

Jay: Right. How about… how about if I tell A JOKE?

CJ: YEAH! That will make me happy.

Jay: Ok. Knock knock?

CJ: Who’s there?

Jay: Panther.

CJ: THIS JOKE DOES NOT MAKE ME HAPPY. Hmmph.

Jay: But the joke’s not FINISHED yet!

CJ: I AM ANGRY!

Jay: PANTHER falling down. GET IT?!

CJ: I AM VERY VERY VERY ANGRY!

Jay: ok, let’s try another one.

CJ: This is not a good idea.

Jay: Knock knock?

CJ: This joke is NOT making me happy

Jay: Butter

CJ: I AM STILL ANGRY!

Jay: Butter pull ‘em up!

  1. I hate knock knock jokes, lol. I do not get them at all!

  2. Those are pretty cute. And I think my 6 yr old can probably remember them. His repertoire so far consists of one joke.

Why did the bubble gum cross the road?

Because it was stuck on the chicken’s foot.

  3. My daughter learned the very same lesson just a few weeks ago! She had the choice of giving the gift and going to the party, or giving the gift and NOT going. After two days of tears (Heaven help me), she went and had a blast. But still brings up how unfair it all was in conversation.

  4. CJ and I are on the same page. I pretty much had the same conversation with my husband this week when he bought his sister the box set of The Gilmore Girls for her birthday.

    (Pout.)

  5. Life is so unfair. Why does everyone always get a birthday except me?

  6. Well, at least he tried to cheer him up. :)

  7. Nice try, Jay!

  8. very funny! my mom just LOVES to tell a similar story about me. apparently I was a rather selfish child and would never pick out an item I myself wanteted when birthday shopping for a friend. i THINK i’m over that now…
