Bigfoot sighting
January 22, 2008 – 2:28 amI’ve had this problem lately where my knees and feet ache and throb and generally cause me much grief. This has not been very conducive to the Great Exercise Plan of 2008.
Although I am now 30 (and therefore much more susceptible to the ailments of aging), I’d like to believe I have at least another ten years of getting around without a cane. So, It must be the shoes! I declared, and decided to go shoe shopping.
There’s a shoe store near our house that sells itself as the ULTIMATE SHOE FITTING AUTHORITY. If you’re not happy, you take the shoes back. Even if you wore them in the mud, lost the laces, or stepped in dog doo. Well, I’m guessing on that last one. But they do guarantee your forever happiness with the shoes, no matter what.
So I traipsed inside and announced to the bright-eyed young salesman that I need new shoes!
Half an hour later I left $120 lighter, a box of new shoes heaver, and slightly traumatized.
Cause here’s the thing. With all his fancy shoe-fitting whatchamacallits, this insolent youth sized my feet a WHOLE SIZE LARGER!
(which does explain the foot and knee aches)
“It’s common for people’s feet to grow a foot size,” he tells me, “it’s no big deal.”
NO BIG DEAL?!
NO BIG DEAL?!?!
NO BIG DEAL?!?!?!?!
Excuse me, young sir, but one size larger is a big deal.
Oh, maybe it’s ok if you’re a sprightly size 7 or a normal size 8. But when you already were wearing a SIZE TEN? Going up a shoe size means I wear (choke gasp snort) an eleven.
My feet are HUGE!
This is not good news.
On second thought, I wouldn’t mind a little bit of this…

And some of that…

I NEED AN ENTIRE NEW WARDROBE OF SHOES!!!!!
This cloud definitely has a silver lining.

Any excuse to buy new shoes is a good thing!

Really? An 11? I don’t know what that looks like so I’ll have to go by your pictures. But my feet went from a 7 to an 8 over the years. So yeah, anything is possible. The heels are awesome though. I think you should buy them for yourself. A belated birthday present. Happy Birthday by the way!

Did you know pregnancy makes your feet grown? Pre-baby I wore a 9 and after she was born I had to start buying 10s. What the hell dude? Like it wasn’t enough that my boobs and butt got big? My feet too?

I used to work in a shoe store, and the women who had the largest feet were always from Germany. Every single time a woman came in asking for size 12, they were German. Must be all the brat and sauerkraut.

From one recently turning 30 year old to another…I was a size 10 all through high school. At present, I wear a 12W!!! At size 11 you are still able to find shoes in most department stores (LUCKY YOU!!) once you hit 12…you are NOT SO LUCKY!! See there are positives to size 11 (not to mention getting to buy all new shoes). Have fun shopping!

I wear an 11, too. (Don’t worry about it, though — athletic shoes almost always run a little small.) Just be glad you’re not a 10.5, cuz that size is impossible to find!

Hysterical!
Where’s this shop . . . I could use a good shoe fitting . . . and a new wardrobe of shoes!

Welcome to the best decade of your life. The aches and pains are to remind you how wonderful life is and that you need to “live” it everyday. When you reach 90 start complaining about aches and pains. Then again if you make it to 90 chances are it’s because you didn’t notice the aches and pains.
Thanks for sharing something from the inside. I love the personal connection.
Regards,
Joe Bruzzese

By the other comments here, I see I’m not the only one. My feet went up about 1/2 size with my pregnancy. Like you, my shoes were getting tight and bugging my feet. I just hope they don;t do this with each pregnancy. I was a size 9-9 1/2, and now I wear 9 1/2-10.

I’ve gone up a shoe size, in my adulthood also. (And a few jean’s sizes.)
Your story reminds me, I met an older woman once (much older than us) who told me that she was an inch shorter but her feet were an inch longer; she wondered if 1 inch had just kid of…slid down around the corner of her heels.

Okay, somewhat delurking here to tell you that I am a size eleven and it isn’t impossible. Check out piperlime.com when you can’t find cute things. And no, my shoe size didn’t rise when I had my son, I’ve been an eleven since I was sixteen. You’ll be all right.

An excuse to buy new shoes! Yay! One of my friends is a size 11, and she actually likes it, because during shoe sales they always have the nicest shoes left in her size. So it’s really like a new bonus to as far as shoe buying goes!

So, if I tell my hubby that my feet have grown, then I can get all new shoes??? I love this!!
Off to get my feet sized…

I am not so big on the theroy of with each pregnancy your foot grows because I would have welcomed it.. I am 5′11″ with an 8.5 foot… I truly believe the small foot on my HUGE frame is what causes me to be the uber clutz I am.. I would take those size 11’s and be proud!!

Lovin’ the sexy shoes… yay for new shoes! 11 is no big deal. My best friend growing up wore a 12 and that was in 7th grade. a GIRL.

Hee hee. Sooo funny. And you definitely need new shoes…and , you know, clothes to match the new shoes.
I have no idea how your shoe sizes compare to ours. I’m a UK size 5.5-6, which is average I think, but I ever knew they could grow. Blimey.

Well at least the insolent youth didn’t send you home in clown shoes, right?
And IF the theory about shoe size correlating to brain size is correct, well let’s just say, you’re a genius.

Good lord, as if we didn’t have enough to worry about with saggy boobs, pouchy tummies, and crow’s feet! Now we have to worry about our feet growing too! And it’s not like you can get a little nip and tuck on the ole tooties. Getting older sucks.

I’m a size 10 now, so it looks like eventually I’ll be an 11 too! Gasp! Well, just look at it this way. At least it’s just your feet that grew and not your nose, like Pinnocchio.

secondly…maybe this will make you feel better. my SIL, 5 feet 3 inches tall, had size 12 feet…until she had two children. she went up a whole size to a 13! i’m 7 inches taller than her, and her feet are 3.5 sizes bigger!!!

I had a similar experience while shoe shopping for new runners. THe guy tried to tell me that I needed to buy a size ten or more.. I have always worn like an eight and half and I wanted to slap him in the face. ABut I ended up buying the bigger size.. such a pushover.

When you expand into the 12+ sizes, ask your gay Feiends where the drag queens go to get fabulous shoes. My cousin wore size 12 in High school, needs some shoes for the prom….
