Last night after CJ is in bed, I inform Jay that I feel like playing a game.
“A game?” he asks, “like what?”
Which is a good question. It’s hard to think of two-person games. I look through the closet, hoping for inspiration, when I see an old dusty deck of cards. And it hits me… Slap Jack!
I haven’t played Slap Jack since college, but I remember lots of giggling and very little thinking. Plus there’s the slapping. Perfect.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the rules of Slap Jack, the basic idea is that you split a deck of cards in half, with each player’s pile face-down. Then you alternate, one at a time, flipping over your top card in the middle of the table. When a Jack gets flipped over, you slap it. The first person to slap it gets the stack of cards and adds it to the bottom of their own pile. Whoever runs out of cards first, loses.
It’s pretty simple. But also weirdly fun.
So we’re slapping… and slapping, and SLAPPING. And you know what? It really hurts, all that slapping.
Finally Jay has had ENOUGH. “I can’t handle any more slapping!” he moans, “My thumb is seriously bruised!”
“Ok,” I say, “We need to do something besides slapping.”
Jay looks skeptical. “Like what?”
“I don’t know… like make a noise.”
“Okaaaay…”
“Like hoot. Maybe we HOOT.”
So we start again. Flipping cards, one at a time. Until… a Jack!
HOOOOOT!!! we both shout, in unison.
I giggle. Jay raises an eyebrow. “This is stupid.” he says.
I have to agree.
So much for game night.

Blokus. Get the small square travel version at Target. This is the BEST 2-person game! Fast and competitive. So be warned: this may test your marriage….

Hah Ha! I have never heard that game before… I’ll have to show daughter and hubby.
At first when you said slap, I thought you might have to actually slap the other player…. now THAT could get dangerous!
At least you had fun. For awhile, that is.
