From Harumph to Jolly in the twinkle of an eye

November 29, 2007 – 7:00 pm

For the last month I’ve been a walking, talking Grinch.

I step into Costco, Target, or Fred Meyer and promptly start to seethe.

I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY HAVE ALL THESE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS OUT ALREADY. HARUMPH!

I bring in our mail filled with holiday catalogs and feel my ears start to burn.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING ALREADY? WHO DO THEY THINK THEY’RE TRYING TO FOOL?! HARUMPH!

I step into Starbucks to get my afternoon latte and frown at the red cups and joyful music.

CHRISTMAS MUSIC?!

Christmas does not come in October, people!!

It doesn’t come in November either!!

HARUMPH HARUMPH HARUMPH

Now the problem with all this Grinching is that it has kept me in a safe, snug place of denial as to how much time I actually have before the joyful day of days.

While I march around, smugly spurning the unnecessarily early arrival of Christmas manifestations, days are ticking off. Tick, tick, tick, there goes October…

Tick, tick, tick, November’s gone too.

And suddenly, as if by some dark form of magic, it IS the season to be jolly!

Ack!

People have their Christmas cards all picked out and ready to send. Some people have even SENT them!

Do I have my Christmas cards? Well no, in fact, I’ve been TOO BUSY Harumphing.

People have their Christmas trees up and decorated, twinkling and shining their glorious cheerful lights as we drive by. “Mommy, mommy LOOK!! A CHRISTMAS TREE!” CJ is all wrapped up in the joyfulness of the season.

Do we have a Christmas tree? Any Christmas decor whatsoever? Erm, no. I do have a handbasket full of HARUMPH, however. Fat lot of good THAT will do me!

People have started their Christmas shopping! Making lists! Checking them twice!

I have a rather empty bank account and NO IDEA whatsoever of what I’ll be buying for the dearly loved ones in my life.

Harumph.

Maybe there’s a point to this Christmas in October. I’m starting to think that’s how much time I need to get my game-face on, my act together, my egg NOGGED.

I’m RUNNING OUT OF TIME!

AGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

LET THE SEASON’S GREETINGS BEGIN!

IN WITH THE JOY!

ON WITH THE HOLLY!

OUT WITH THE GRINCH!

IN WITH THE JOLLY!

PEACE ON EARTH GOOD WILL TOWARDS MEN RUM A TUM TUM AND HO HO HO!

Anyone for an eggnog latte?

And speaking of holiday cheer… don’t forget the Special Edition of Hot Mamas Know that I’m hosting on THIS SATURDAY!! Come on people, I NEED YOU!!

    Nice legs!

    Eggnog? Blech!

I agree that Christmas before Thanksgiving is too much. It makes me Harumph, too. Though, I did start my “shopping” early (I didn’t really shop; just planned and ordered).

We have our tree up, no decorations. I have some presents bought, thanks to my insanity on the blackest of Fridays. But I refuse to get my Jolly on until Saturday. No Christmas music or Ho ho ho-ing until December for me. Blah!

Outwardly I scorn the early arrival of Christmas everything, but secretly I am planning and saving and photographing in early November so I won’t be in such a frenzy in December. Well, I take that back, I’ll still be in a frenzy in December no matter how much prep I do. Good luck.

    I only drink spiked eggnog.

    Shocker.

Do like me and forget christmas cards. It is NOT laziness, it is an environmental friendly holiday decision. Think of all of the trees I’m saving by NOT buying and sending cards each year. heh.

I felt that same way until Sunday…we put up the tree and I have been in the mood ever since. It is sad to say but my Christmas cards have been done since Monday but I was too embarrassed to sent them out before Dec 1st.

Brilliant Photoshopping, as usual. I love it!

I’m doing a “Christmas Card Blog” under the aspices of ‘environmentalism.’

Not sure if anyone will believe it!;)

Just jivin’ ya. I love the pictures, and am so there with you on the early Xmas retailing. But it’s not just the stores. Some of my neighbors starting putting up Xmas lights right after taking down Halloween decs. No kidding.

We decorate the first weekend of December every year… so it’s up with the tree tomorrow. I make my own cards too, but each year I send less and less.

I don’t get in the Christmas spirit until we get snow… and now that we have it, I am panicking as well. Ah, well, tis the season!

Oh, and I get all hopped up on the Starbucks Pepermint Mocha too; venti please with a Cranberry Bliss bar!

You have some hot legs, woman. heehee.

I do alot of Harumphing as well. Course I’m typically still doing it in mid-Dec.

(I was up past 2 a.m. last night trying to find some decent photos and crop and stuff and pic out a card for Christmas… I did find a pic. But now that its printed on a card, I realized my son’s got a dirty face. Gah! Hope YOUR photos turn out so much better.
