Whenever people start to complain about this fair city… the cost of living… the traffic… the impossibility that is buying a house… I find myself taking Seattle’s side.
Well, of course it’s expensive to live here, I tell them, it’s a great place to live!
There’s the islands! The mountains! The parks! The coffee! The culture! The fine-dining opportunities! The ferries! Pike Place Market! Seattle Grace! (it’s not real and yet I claim it)…
And now I have one more thing to add to my list of Reasons Why Seattle is the BEST PLACE to Live…
The mom bloggers.
Last night I had the pleasure of hanging out with twenty-some Seattle mom bloggers at a Seattle Mom Blogs party sponsored by Method. (Thanks Method! Love the Lavender all-purpose cleaner!) Kathryn, Eve, and I took most of the credit even though the Method people did most of the work. (party planning at its finest!)
Yesterday as the evening loomed closer I felt a little tinge of nervousness that rapidly grew into major gas pains. (Didn’t know nervousness could give you gas, did you? Well, it CAN.)
What if the party is boring? I worried, What if we can’t think of anything to talk about? What if people don’t LIKE me?!? WHAT IF NO ONE COMES???
It’s one thing to get all cozy and comfortable with people online where you have the security of the Delete key and Photoshop to hide your many flaws. But meeting face-to-face? That’s more than a little daunting.
And of course there were the gas pains.
I needn’t have worried.
I popped a Gas-X or three (those chewy tablets are my FRIENDS!) and hopped in my car. Before I knew it, I was having FUN! The kind of fun that you can only have when surrounded by people who inspire, entertain and delight you. When there’s great food and yummy drinks and NO KIDS to wipe their syrupy hands on your shirt and knock over the vase.
I met so many truly great women. Funny, interesting, easy-to-talk-to, down-to-earth, fun, stylish, amazing, fabulous women. Women who are writing books and making amazing career changes, with upcoming weddings and even one I knew from my past life…
We laughed, we talked, we ate, we drank, we snorted (ok, I snorted. But it was Mrs. Flinger’s fault. She’s a RIOT, that one).
And being around all the greatness, I couldn’t help but feel all warm and fuzzy. These are my PEEPS!
I’d post pictures, but I didn’t have the camera. And while that scares me (How will I photoshop my head onto the appropriate body before the pictures are posted? HOW?!), I’ve made my peace with it.
Forget the Space Needle, Seattle’s mom bloggers are the true attraction here!
(now if I can just convince the rest of my mom blogger cohorts to pick up and move to the Pacific Northwest…)

Golly. Thanks for the funny tag. It was fun and we will all have to do it again! My suggestion: get a hotel suite in Seattle and have a killer slumber party!!! Think that would be so fun. Maybe a hotel with a spa for us to get pedicures!!! I love me pedicures.
Hugs.

Oh Jenny. Sorry I ambushed you with not one but two hugs! I’m so honored to be one of your peeps!

Wait one cotton-pickin’ minute!!! What do you mean by “Seattle Grace isn’t real????”
Next thing you’ll tell me is that Santa isn’t real. Or that Mickey Mouse is just a person in a costume.
I’m not sure I can read anymore of your lies, young lady!!!

I had such a great time on Friday night- thanks for all you did and all you’ve done organizing Seattle Mom Blogs. It’s great!

Ok, uh, so we podcasted on our way there? And I TOTALLY talked about my fart-nerves. Oh, yes, OF COURSE I fart when I’m nervous. And y’all throw such an amazing gig that I didn’t fart once.
Ok, fine, once.
LUFF it. Please, let’s get together again soon. I hear there are a few good bars around town…

Thank you, for being you — you rock and I am so happy, and honored and in total awe to be a part of such an awesome group of ladies!

How fun. We have like THREE mom bloggers in my town. I wish I lived in Seattle. I love it there. I’ve been trying to convince my husband for years..BUT you all have Qwest, and he works for the other phone co. As soon as the company he works for takes over the rest of the world, we may be able to move to Seattle!
October 15, 2007 at 8:12 am
Oh that sounds like fun!!
I want to live in Seattle now just for the blogger party.
October 15, 2007 at 8:14 am

I would have loved to go, but the moment I got the email with the details my anxiety mocked me. Maybe I will finally meet all of the awesome Seattle Mom Bloggers at another event. :) I’m glad it went well!

Sounds like you gals had a great time! I wish I could have been there! And just a little fyi, you can claim Grace Hospital, it actually existed from 1885-1894. Yes, I’m a history geek, lol.

Sigh. I’m jealous. I was born in Bellevue, does that count?
Actually, we’re trying to see if my husband can work from home and if he can, it would so totally be Bainbridge Island.
We ever get there, I’ll look you up!
October 16, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Oh Jenny, I heart you even more now that I met you. We must all hang again! You (and well Method too I suppose we should give them some credit) throw one killer par-tay!
