In the still of the night

September 15, 2007 – 4:48 pm

Every night at exactly 12:00am the alarm on my watch goes off. beepbeepbeep! beepbeepbeep! beepbeepbeep!

I didn’t set it.

I don’t know how to change it.

It’s been doing this for the last three months.

And it’ll probably KEEP doing it until the watch dies, is lost, or otherwise ends its reign upon my arm.

In a weird way I sort of like it. beepbeepbeep! it announces, it’s midnight!

If I’m not in bed yet (which is far too often the case), I think wow, it’s midnight! I need to get to bed!

And if I AM in bed already, I give a little chuckle of satisfaction. ha! I went to bed before midnight! I’m very very responsible, I am. Very responsible INDEED.

I have this crazy feeling, that as a child, you had tons of conversations with voices in your head. Maybe even arguments.
    I totally get it.
My watch does the same thing, exact at 10:30AM. I can’t change it either.

My response to that? That there are some seriously sadistic watch designers roaming this crazy world of ours.

For a while, my meditation chime would start ringing all on it’s own. It was weird!

I love those little things that drive one crazy at first but after a while become familiar - like markings to guide you through your day, or night as the case may be.

That would make me crazy if I was already asleep…

My grandparents had a cuckoo clock that had the same effect on me.

I’m with kimi. That would drive me totally bonkers. But secretly, I would also be amazingly impressed with myself if I could be in bed before the beeping…

My grandfather used to put his alarm clock in the refrigerator… I have this strange feeling that he was a little off his rocker, but, hey it’s a thought! :P

That would drive me nuts! Well, because lately I have been in bed by 9:00 so I would be three hours into my sleep (pregnancy makes me do it!)

You are a sick, sick woman. I have one of those alarm clocks. It is called a baby.

If I stayed up til midnight, I would be beyond useless the next day. And I’m pretty sure that after 2 days of that alarm I would have run over that watch with my car to make it stop. But that’s just me. :)

How funny! It was great to explore your site tonight! I am with Jonathan, I no longer wear those crazy watches (however, I do have about 4 or 5 in my jewelry boxes with dead batteries)! Thanks for visiting my site!

My ipod does that!! I bought it used, so I am not sure if the previous owner set it that way or what, but it is very annoying!

I left my alarm clock out in our tralier after the last camping trip and so I’ve been using my husband’s annoying clock since, and I can’t even set it for the time I want when he’s at work, so I just leave it that way.

There, do you feel more normal now?

I am right there with ya!

I got to bed about 9ish every night….If I had a watch that did that I would have to smash it to bits with a hammer. Seriously.

I can never keep up with my watch, let alone the voices in my head.

Our stopwatch does this. It usually goes off in the still of the night too. My husband and I are too lazy to figure out how to change it so I just hide it and still can faintly hear it.

I probably would have smashed that watch by now.

    But, that’s just me.

It’s nice that you find it useful even if it can’t be adjusted.

If it goes off every 12am, I’m pretty sure that watch won’t stay in my hand.
