Two very kind blogger ladies- Jo (she’s like Kate Moss… only BETTER) and Mert- have awarded me the… (drumroll please)
BLOGGING COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AWARD.
That’s right, I’m basically the candy striper of the blogosphere; a virtual team mother. You need cookies? YOU KNOW WHO TO CALL!
So it got me thinking… if I have this whole community thing going on, I should be able to take advantage and tap this community for the answers to questions that I’ve long pondered. Right? RIGHT?
Well, it’s worth a try at least. So here goes. If you have a suggestion or answer to one or all, leave a comment. If you have a complaint, go ahead and post it here. Just kidding… sort of.
MY QUESTIONS:
- Can anyone recommend a good yoga video? I am currently using “Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss” with Susan Deason and I like it ok, but I’m getting awfully tired of it.
- Recommendations for excellent craft/art/science project/other activity books for 4+ year olds? A website would work too, but please not the ones that are SO ANNOYING with lots of moving icons and flashing lights. Those make my head hurt, seriously.
- Tried-and-true approaches for keeping a very active four-year old entertained so you can do something productive around the house??? Clearly toys don’t work; so there must be something else?
And now… I’m supposed to pass on the lovin’ goodness to FIVE other blogger candystriper types. Since I can think of about 20 that deserve it, it’s a difficult task. But, never one to break the rules, I will perservere. So… here goes.
1) ‘Twas Brillig. She leaves the nicest, most thoughtful comments and is always sure to give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
2) Polliwog’s Pond. This woman is inspiring. She is very much connected into every blogging and technical community out there. And still she has time to leave nice comments, nominate me for awards which I do NOT deserve, send me emails with kind and inspiring words, and even send me cool little Polliwogs in the mail!
3) Queen of Shake-shake. She reigns supreme with the power of schmooze. ‘Nuff said.
4) Playgroups are no place for children. Ok. she has a new baby, yet she still reads my blog AND comments regularly. She’s funny, interesting, nice… If I had known they had these types of people in Alabama, I might’ve moved there ages ago!
5) Plain Jane Mom. You know it’s true. This fabulous, funny, and technically savvy lady is CONSTANTLY drawing attention to other bloggers. How does she do it? I like to think she has an army of minions doing her work. Or maybe she’s just that good. Who can say?
6) Paris Hilton. Ok, she doesn’t actually deserve this award. But I had to think of a way to fit in this hilarious list of the top 5 Paris Hilton-isms that I found via Sk*rt. Worth a click, seriously.

Hmm those are difficult questions Absolutely Bananas.
The Yoga I have no idea on.
We love Usborne Books.
http://www.usborne.com/default.asp
They have loads of titles, such as ’101 Science Activities’, Pirate Things To Make and Do’, Kids Cook Books, Halloween Activities, Summer Activities etc.
They’re lovely books and we generally find something to do in them. If you follow the above link you can browse the catalogue by category. They also put age guidelines to help you choose.
We use them alot.
Entertaining the four year old while you do stuff…I’ve always struggled with this one.
Sometimes I get my two to help by giving them little tasks. They really love this – I’m not sure why.
Otherwise it’s usually a bit hit and miss.
Sometimes they’ll sit and colour. sometimes play dough works.
Miss E will use the computer.
Sorry I’m not much help there.
Can’t wait to visit the blogs you’ve chosen
I love Brillig too.

I can only help with number 3…
TV. Ninetindo DS. Lego Star Wars game. Or anything you tell the child NOT to do.
I am not a fan of TV, DS or Star Wars but I will use them to my advantage i.e. Snags! Stop bothering the dog and go watch TV. I have to finish reading this Harry Potter book so dad can borrow it!)
Then there is the reverse psycology method… “Look kiddo, whatever you do, DO NOT scrub the floor or fold your laundry. I mean it, you better not do it…”
If you haven’t already done so, Nick Jr. and PBS Kids have websites with some cute computer games they can play on-line – Dora, Sesame Street. Teach colors, shapes, letters, etc…

Congrats on the award!
Hmmm, I can’t really help with your first question since I don’t do yoga myself. Or with the second, since I’ve been wondering the same thing (thanks for asking it!). As for how to keep a 4-year-old entertained, I usually look to my 6-year-old to do that. ;)

Congrats, oh schmooze-a-licious one! And thanks for passing it on to me! I make you all warm and fuzzy? That’s either incredibly nice or somewhat creepy. Either way, I’ll take it. :-)
As for your questions, you’re speaking a totally foreign language to me. Exercise? Arts and crafts? Accomplishing stuff around the house? HAHAHA. Yeah! Good luck with that!
(Okay, but I do actually have to agree with Jo Beaufoix about the Usborne books. We love those around here.)

Hey thanks so much! I’ve been really slacking for about a week, so thanks for not pointing that out :)

Thanks!!!! Now, if only I got to schmooze you in Chicago….

You made me cry again! LOL!
Thank you so much Jenny. I have just come off a 24-period of utter hell without any running water (freak accident involving a piece of falling wood that sliced off an outdoor spigot) and you just gave me the biggest smile.
For what it’s worth, I do those things for you because you deserve them and you inspire me.
As for your questions. I’d love to know the answer to #21 myself. For keeping a little one busy, I have one sure-fire trick, older siblings. That won’t help you though!
And though I don’t always have time to comment, just know I am a huge fan an I think I read nearly everything you post. And that’s not schmoozing, that’s the truth! :-)
Oh and I HAD NOT won this one yet. So YAY!!
