You might want to install padding on your garage IF…
May 16, 2007 – 4:41 pmI learned many lessons from yesterday morning’s painful car-bashing. For example,
1) Insurance is a really, really, REALLY good thing. (yes, I do have it, thanks for asking MM!)
My agent at MetLife, bless him, informed me that they have a special “waiver” for people who bash into their own cars (the stupidity waiver?), and so my $500 deductible is tra-la! not an issue that I have to deal with. So why do I keep waiting for THE OTHER SHOE to drop?
2) BMW’s, while fabulously cool and enormously fun to drive, are really rather ridiculously expensive.
The simplest thing gets automatically marked up 563% when you’re driving a car with that fancy little blue and white logo. I know what you’re thinking… but I don’t WANT to drive a minivan!!
3) My little son has a zero tolerance policy for mommy’s mess-ups.
When CJ saw the big scrape and dent he said to me (in a scarily similar version to my own “sternly disappointed”): “Mommy, I am VERY MAD that you smashed my car. That was a VERY BAD thing for you to do.”
4) I am very much NOT alone in my car maneuvering DIS-abilities.
There is a common thread that ties together many of the readers of this blog; and it’s more than just motherhood and the desire for a good laugh. The commonality that I’m talking about is the inability to avoid inanimate objects such as garages and our own cars. This is sad, ladies. If I wasn’t the freshest inductee into the club, I’d be tempted to get up on my high-horse. We MUST pay attention. Let’s all repeat together, “I WILL watch where I’m going. I WILL NOT bash into my own garage door.” Very good.
Oh and by the way Kimberly, LAIKI, Epixstix, Tanyetta, Stephanie, Deborah, Lene… sorry, but you’ve been outed. And yes, the title of this post applies to you. Ok, ok, and me too.

Insurance is great! My rear window exploded on me 2 days before I gave birth to my son (it was under ’stress’ or something - whatever, it caused me unbelievable stress, and maybe baby J to come 2 weeks early lol!) The insurance people were awesome, and that was minor compared to your woes.
I read your piece yesterday and thought ‘please don’t let this happen to me’ - I think it every time I back out of the garage past my husbands car.

Oh, I’m glad that the insurance won’t be a problem! Phew!
I have not yet had the great pleasure of such an accident, but only due to dumb luck, alas. So I promise that I will repeat “I WILL watch where I’m going” right along with the rest of you. :-)

I’ve never hit a non-moving object. But now that I’ve said it, I’m sure I will. Dammit!

Since moving into our house 3 years ago, I have backed out of our garage and ….
1. busted the driver side mirror (twice)
2. dented the padding surrounding the garage door (three times)
3. backed out into the driveway and hit the cable box between our driveway and our neighbor’s yard (three times, including last week).
Can we say spatially challenged??!!

Hey, I’ll take any taste of fame I can get. Even if it’s for being a complete twit. =P

I’m definitely feeling your pain…I won’t show you a pic of my side mirror or the garage when I forgot to pull my mirrors in. Bummer.

Done it before. But it was my Cadi1 DeVille when I was in my early twenties. I didn’t have insurance. It probably still has that dent out there somewhere in the world.
