How I ended up on the Seattle waterfront with a lady holding a cardboard sign that says "What on earth is that smell?"

Sometimes being a total blogger geek actually pays off. This Saturday was one of those sometimes. I managed to finagle my way into a mini Seattle BlogHer (sans the drunken escapades, entry fee, and jet lag)– yep, that’s right, lunch at Ivar’s (it’s NOT just for tourists!) complete with excellent company, fishy food (but in a good way), and sunny skies smiling at me… what could be better? OK, a waffle cone. But you can’t have your cake and eat it too, as they say, and so it seems hanging with the blogGals and having a waffle cone is truly TOO MUCH for the fates to allow.
Or maybe it’s Daring Young Mom… is she a jinx? Does she have bad karma? Just unlucky? Because, in retrospect, it was rather ODD the way they ran out of waffle cones at the exact minute that she stepped up to the counter. I’ll think more about that later.
So you’re probably wondering about the cardboard sign. I am honestly NOT making it up. And yes, we did have people stop and ask what we were doing. No, we didn’t get any money (a fact that I found to be rather disappointing). Yes, we did get LOOKS to indicate people thought we were crazy. But now that I think about it, that was after the sign had been put away. Hmm, more for me to ponder.
Lunch was great. Highlights for me:
1. The company. Clearly a great crowd. In fact, even the waiter was infatuated. We told him we were bloggers and he swooned at our feet. Ok it was more like the opposite, but I can pretend, right?

But seriously, I was impressed that the Colorado sisters had actually driven from Colorado (never been there, but I think it’s far away)… and Kim, who not only made the trek from Northern Canada (I kept looking for a moose in her bag, but never spotted one)… and she even paid for our lunch! Very kind, aye? Or was it because I kept looking at her bag??
Then there was Carrot who is having a baby ON FRIDAY (smart woman, to schedule these important events), our wonderful organizer-hostess Millie. And Bella, who seemed very cool and funny, and the mysterious but very sophisticated No Cool Story, whose identity I’ve sworn to keep secret under penalty of death by seagulls (don’t ask… I made it up).
2. The view. There’s nothing like Seattle on a clear, sunny day… unless it’s Seattle on a clear, sunny day with a fire-boat full of musclebound fire men workin’ it on the deck RIGHT NEXT TO OUR WINDOW (did we pay extra for this?). I could’ve stayed all day. Well, I pretty much did stay all day, thanks to the games and 2-hour wait for our food.
3. The laughs. Daring Young Mom had organized a getting-to-know you activity which involved writing the names of people I had just met… needless to say I scored a zero… and winning socks. I was a bit confused, but looking out the window at my friends in the fire boat seemed to soothe me.
Oh, and I learned that Eve has been known to clean the Daring household kitchen. So needless to say I’ll be doing everything in my power to make friends with HER! (this kitchen NEEDS some loving… let me tell you!) Also she’s really cute, funny, nice, and interesting… all real pluses to the kitchen-cleaning habit.
After lunch we stood in line for waffle cones (see above) and who should appear BUT… my darling husband and CJ! CJ promptly leaped into my arms (it seems that three hours without mommy is HIGHLY traumatic), and fastened one finger to Ordinary Mom’s back for the duration of our stay. Clearly he sensed her excellent character… he typically won’t even LOOK at other adults!
And, after our delightful afternoon, we parted ways.
Thanks, ladies, for the good times!

OK, I LOVE Corinne Bailey Rae. Did I spell it right?
I loved that you weren’t ashamed of standing next to the crazy lady holding that sign. Of all the things to ask, outside of Ivar’s.
You are so much fun! It was great to meet you - I’m sorry I didn’t meet your hubby and little boy, but I was busy helping Carrot with her Lamaze. ;)

I’m so glad you came. It was great to meet you and I think maybe it’s your husband who’s the jinx. I was smelling the waffle cones until right about when he showed up. We went for one afterwards and it was AMAZING. We’ll have to go again… for blogging purposes.

Good times were had for sure, and hopefully we really will be having more good times in the future. After all, I am determined to get my waffle cone.
And your son can poke me all he wants. He was adorable!

It was great to meet you. I wish we could have talked more. Between stuffing my face, checking out our cutie patootie waiter, and fawning over Miss Carrot (I’m a huge fan) I didn’t get to get to know everyone. I would have like to talk more about our newspaper blogs.
Don’t want to knit pick, but I layed down the big buck for plane tickets, we didn’t drive. I love ya’ll, but I won’t spend that much time in a car to meet cyber friends.
